you can create BASE Mesh:

- Dynamesh
-ZSpheres
-ShadowBox

ZSpheres

ZSPHERES
1.       Symmetry ON – “x” shortcut
2.       W: move – Q: draw
3.       Adaptive skin preview: A  (DO NOT SCULPT ON PREVIEW) -  PRESS MAKE ADAPTIVE SKIN TO SCULPT.
4.       Rotate the Chain, NOT the zsphere.
5.       ALT + click: delete
6.       Shift to make the zsphere identical size as the previous one.
7.       ALWAYS root zsphere on the pelvis
8.       Draw size is 1

http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/creating-meshes/zspheres/

ZSphere is a tool. Search it in a tool menu.

Make sure before you do anything,  SYMMETRY IS ON. otherwise you are screwed... ( if you are making smth that is supposed to be symmetrical)

1st ZSphere is a root/ parent.

-DRAW-

Q

Click anywhere on ZSphere to draw a new one. You can add a ZSphere to an existing Chain ( * elbows) by tapping on the chain.
ALT + click on ZSphere to delete it.
SHIFT + draw a ZSphere the same size

You can make a ZSphere snap to *lets say a plane. Select a ZSphere, go to Draw Mode, click on the Plane you want ZSphere to snap to. It will create a new ZSphere and a chain.

-MOVE-

W
click on ZSphere to move it.

The Draw size of your brush affects the way you move ZSpheres. Draw size to 1 - moves only one ZSphere. The bigger the size, the more other ZSpheres it will reach and affect.

-SCALE-

E

The NOT things:

1/ Do NOT overlap ZSpheres! the moment it goes transparent you should do smth with it- move it/ delete it etc.
2/ Be careful and do NOT tap around when you are in Draw mode. You accidentally might create tiny ZSpheres that will mess you up.
3/ Try to avoid 5- Star points. Its not the end of the world, but later on it will not allow you to sculpt and subdivide properly.

Adaptive skin

Tool-> Adaptive skin

To preview adaptive skin ( the actual mesh), click A.

To make the mesh, push the button Make Adaptive Skin. - it creates a new TOOL. Look for a name , that says Skin...., not the ZSphere.....

ShadowBox

Turn Perspective OFF
Turn on Ghost transparency

Lightbox-> select Shadowbox ( the numbers stand for resolution. Resolution affects how many details you will be able to get)
mask on Planes to create your base meshes...

Tool-> Geometry -> ShadowBox , turn on the button to make the mesh.

Go Texture Map in the Tool menu, see there is the Top, Bottom, Side texture.
Save the img you want to use.

Get the texture of Shadow box, go to /Windows/- Local Drive-> Program Files-> Pixologic-> ZBrush 4R7->Lightbox->  find the image of the shadowbox texture

Align the img you found/ made in a way the Shadow Box texture is. Then save it and Import in ZBrush Texture Map. Then you can mask the shape from the images you have imported.

/OR/

Make black silhouette images in Photoshop, then reorganize it to fit the Template of Shadowbox texture.  After you imported the Texture into ZBrush, go to Polypaint-> Polypaint from Texture. It will apply the black color as an actual polypaint to the shadowbox. Go Masking-> Mask by Color-> Mask by Intensity.

It will automatically mask all the black shapes and create the mesh. ( CTRL tap on the shadowbox if it doesnt show up right away).

- in the Tool menu. Can convert any mesh into the Shadowbox mode.
Has 2 options: Resolution ( the quality, <128), Smooth ( how mush it smoothes your mask). Don't mess with defaults. Its just a BASEMESH.

You can open a premade Shadowbox. In a Lightbox-> Grids

Draw -> Snap to SBox ( snaps the grid to Shadowbox)

*ALT when painting switches to the alternate color.

SHADOWBOX - quick tips
LIGHTBOX>TOOL TAB>SHADOW BOX 128
Geometry menu: Shadowbox > activate shadowbox button.
Make sure the Shadowbox resolution is high enough to support better information.
Control the polish bar to make the masking had surface or smooth.
LAZYMOUSE:
Stroke menu> lazy mouse>tap on lazymouse button> turn on backtrack, snaptrack and line.
